Retaliating the zero tolerance policy of BJP government, Goa's tourism minister has said that his government will free the state of drugs. Goa tourism minister Dilip Parulekar said that this is the New Year's Resolution of the government.
He was asked questions about police seizing drugs from venue of Sunburn and the other popular electronics and dance music festival. In reply he said that it is very difficult to stop someone from selling drugs near the venue especially when there is shortage of police.
Dilip Parulekar added that there is not sufficient police force to take on the drug mafia but still his government is trying its level best. The state do not need rave parties, drugs or flesh trade to attract tourists.
Goa government is trying to improve the image of state as family friendly destination. Some high profile rape cases and drug menace has in the past dented image of Goa tourism.
But since BJP government has come in power, it has done a lot to ensure security of tourists. Various steps have been taken including deploying additional police at popular beaches.
In the meantime, industry estimates that there will be more than 15 lakh tourists visiting the state during holiday season.
