State government is consistently in touch with the Britain to lift the travel advisory. Officials believe that if Britain decides to lift the advisory, countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand will also follow.
Recently state government organized a golf cup in the valley for diplomats of various countries. Jammu and Kashmir government sent a message to other countries that security conditions in the valley have improved as it is evident from the ground.
Kashmir tourism was devastated by the Pakistan sponsored terrorism that started in early 80s. It lead by the ethnic cleansing of the Kashmiri Hindu Pandits in the valley by the hands of locals and terrorists. It is considered as the Holocaust of Pandits. At least 350,000 Pandits were killed in Kashmir which is the biggest assault on the minority in Independence India.
However situation has started to improve in last couple of years. Tourism industry is going strong and last year it hit the 1 million tourist arrivals mark. Last year 1.3 million tourists visited Kashmir making it the most successful year for the tourism. This year already 1 million tourists have visited the valley and it is expected that Kashmir will be able to surpass the record set last year.
Kashmir is also seeing a renewed interest of Bollywood to shoot movies in the valley. Recently Late Yash Raj Chopra directed some parts of his upcoming movie starring Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in the valley. It is expected that this movie would help tourism industry to grow.
