Some experts believe that Fukushima caused more trouble for the tourism than earthquake and tsunami. Most of the travel advisories to Japan were focused towards the possible disaster at Fukushima.
Japan has finally managed to recover just after one year. May be North African countries should take some lessons from Japan on recovering tourism. Several attempts were made by Japan to improve tourism, this included offering free airline tickets and endorsement from Pop icon Lady Gaga. Japan also allowed some journalists inside Fukushima Nuclear Plant to calm down fears of any possible nuclear meltdown.
All these steps have shown positive impact on the tourism. The recovery has been lead by strong arrivals from China. Last month was best even in term of Chinese arrivals to Japan. Others countries that made strong contribution are India, Britain and Taiwan. However there is still more work need to be done to lure back tourists from South Korea.
