AirAsia Airline has been forced to cancel its flights to Yogyakarta and Solo cities of Indonesia due to the volcano. The flights were forced to close on November 2. Silk Air was also forced to cancel flights to Solo from Singapore. Both airlines have said that they are monitoring the situation very closely.
So far situation is not severe but scientists have warned that Indonesia volcano could continue to spew ash clouds for months. However scientists have said that Indonesia Mount Merapi is different from Iceland Volcano and is not likely to produce similar quantity of ash clouds. The impact of the volcano could be limited to Yogyakarta and Solo airports and that too won't last very long.
Meanwhile airlines do not wish to take any chance because they believe that diverting flights in this region could be very difficult task. Therefore most of the airlines are working on the Valkyrie (contingency plans) in case problem gets worse.
