A veterinarian was called by the park officials after the crocodile flipped over with a bloated stomach. Despite the best efforts, it could be revived and few hours later was declared dead to the world by the mayor of Bunawan.
The exact reason of the death is unknown. However the unusually cold conditions in the town is being seen as the main reason for the death. Authorities are now working to find out exact cause of death.
Bunawan had huge plans to boost tourism in the small town with the help of the crocodile. After capturing the crocodile, a eco-tourism park was developed for its stay. Since then it had started to attract tourists in large number.
Lolong was not only attracting domestic tourists but foreign tourists as well. The eco-tourism park was built to cash in on the crocodile. Philippines tourism officials had planned a mile long road in the eco-tourism park to accommodate the growing number of tourists. However now all such plans are most likely to be scrapped.
