Meghalaya tourismMeghalaya is a state in East India bordering Assam and Bangladesh. Meghalaya means "Adobe of Clouds" due to receiving over 1200 cm of rainfall. If you love rainfall that you would definitely enjoy Meghalaya because it always rains here. The towns like Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram receives highest rainfall in the world. No wonder why Meghalaya is called the wettest place on planet.

Meghalaya tourism has enough attractions to attract tourists from all over the world. The state is one of the most picturesuq region in India. Lush green forest, mountains, wonderful waterfalls and beautiful lakes are the key talking points of Meghalaya tourism.

Adventure tourism in Meghalaya is very popular. Adventure lovers come to the state for mountaineering, hiking, water sports, rock climbing and trekking. The Umiam Lake is the center of water sports thanks to facilities like paddle-boats, sailing boats etc. Umiam Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in world. Families will enjoy picnic at this lake.

The most popular tourist spot in Meghalaya is Cherrapunjee, a scenic town located 50km from Shillong famous for receiving high amount of rainfall. It is considered the wettest place on Earth.

Elephant FallsMeghalaya is also very popular for breathtaking waterfalls. The must travel waterfalls are Elephant Falls near Cherrapunjee, Weinia falls, Langshiang falls, Nohkalikai Falls etc. The Jakrem hot springs believed to have medicinal properties.

Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya is referred as Scotland of the East due to its natural panorama. The city is famous for its 18 holes golf course which is considered best in India. Beautiful valleys and parks has made Shillong an important part of tourism in Meghalaya.

Almost half of the Meghalaya is covered with subtropical forest. This forest receives abundance of rainfall that helps several species of animals to flourish in the region. Wildlife tourism in Meghalaya has immense opportunities. The major wildlife parks of the state are Nokrek National Park, Selbagre Hoolock Gibbon Reserve, Balpakram National Park, Baghmara Reserve Forest, Siju Bird Sanctuary and Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary.

Meghalaya has some very impressive caves. Tourists who enjoys caving will have great time exploring some of the hidden caves in the state. Krem Mawmluh, Krem Dam, Krem Lymput, Mawsmai Cave and Krem Mawjymbuin are some very impressive caves to explore.
