KANHA NATIONAL PARK

Kanha National Park Kanha National Park and tiger reserve is spread in 940 sq km horse shoe shaped valley in Madhya Pradesh. Kanha National Park is considered as of the best tigers reserves in India with good population of Bengal tiger.

The Kanha National Park is the largest national park in Central India and a important tiger reserve. The park was created way back in 1955. Since then it have played major role in the conservation of tigers and other wildlife animals.

Kanha National Park is considered one of the most beautiful national parks in India. Every year thousands of tourists visit Kanha tiger reserve for tiger sightings. Tiger tourism has played a major role for Kanha National Park. Apart from Bengal tiger, Kanha is also famous for Swamp deer, Sambhar, Chital, Gaur. With over 200 species of birds, Kanha is ideal birdwatching destination in India.

 

WHEN TO VISIT

There is no specific season to visit Kanha National Park and tiger reserve. Although the park is closed for the tourists during the monsoon (Mid June to October).

Majority of tourists however prefers to travel Kanha during February to June, just before the monsoon season. Winter season is also good period to visit the park.

 

PLACES OF INTERESTS

Bamni Dadar - Bamni Dadar is ideal Sambar, Barking Deer, Gaur and the Four Horned Antelope sighting location inside Kanha National Park. Bamni Dadar is a sunset point, very famous among the tourists due to the quietness of the place.

Kanha Museum - Located inside the national park, Kanha Museum is a great place to get interesting information about Kanha.

Kanha Tiger reserve Wildlife Attractions - Kanha Tiger reserve is famous for Bengal tigers. Apart from tigers tourists will come across several another wild animals like Nilgai, Indian Wolf, Hyena, Swamp deer, Hard Ground Barasingha, Chital, Barking deer, Sloth bear, Jackal, Fox, Porcupine, Jungle cat, Python and many more.

Birdwatching - In winter, Kanha becomes home of thousands of migratory birds. For birdwatching winter is the ideal period. There are over 200 species of birds at Kanha that includes Storks, Teals, Spotted parakeets, Peacock, Finches, Orioles, Owls, Warblers, Kingfishers and much more.

Tiger Shows - Tourists can book for the tiger shows at the Kanha National Park. Tourists will be taken on the back of elephant for the tiger sightings but tourists will have to buy ticket from the visitors center at Kanha, Mukki or Kisli Gate.

 

PARK FEE & GENERAL RULES

The entry fee for Kanha National Park is Rs. 1230 per person. To travel around the park, tourists will have to hire a gypse. The rates of gypse are around Rs.4000 for group of 4 people.

It is advised to plan at least 3-4 days trip to Kanha National Park to get a good chance to view tigers and other wildlife animals at the park.

Tourists are required to hire a park guide to travel around kanha. This is for the safety of the tourists since it is quite easy to get lost in Kanha.

Smoking, drinking and playing loud music inside the Kanha is not allowed. You also can't use gypse light or flight light at night.

Trekking at the Kanha National Park is allowed in very limited area.

Park Timings:

Oct. 1 - Feb. 15-    Sunrise to 1200 hrs., 1500 hrs. to sunset.
Feb. 16 - Apr. 15 - Sunrise to 1200 hrs., 1600 hrs. to sunset.
Apr. 16 - Jun. 30 - Sunrise to 1100 hrs., 1700 hrs. to sunset.

HOW TO REACH

By Air - Jabalpur is the nearest city to Kanha with a airport. Tourists will get a flight to Jabalpur from Mumbai and Delhi.

By Train - The nearest railway station is also in Jabalpur. There are trains from Delhi and other Indian cities to Jabalpur.

By Road – Kanha is well connected by road to Jabalpur and Raipur.
