

The capital of the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar is situated at the foothills of
Himalayas. It comes administratively under Papum Pare district.
As a capital town, Itanagar is well connected with the rest of the country by road and
air communications.
PLACE TO VISIT
Ita Fort - historical fort called Ita fort, dating back to the 14th -15th centuries
Ganga Lake/ Gyakar Sinyi - It is a beautiful picnic spot, 6-kms away from
Itanagar, a green forest lake surrounded by primeval vegetation, orchids masses on
tall trees, tree ferns provides a small taste of the magnificent forests of the state.
Itanagar Sanctuary - has semi-evergreen forests, a small tiger population
and visiting herds of elephants.
Buddhist Temple - Consecrated by the Dalai Lama, the Buddhist temple
stands atop a small hillock and is surrounded by well-maintained gardens. The
main shrine is behind the stupa (Buddhist monument). Oft visited here is the tree
planted by the Dalai Lama.
HOW TO REACH
AIR - The nearest airport to Itanagar, at Lilabari in Assam, 67-km away there are
regular flights to Tezpur (Assam), the nearest and best connected airport, from
Kolkata and Guwahati. Taxis and buses ply from Tezpur airport to Itanagar city
regularly.
TRAIN - The nearest railhead is Harmuty, 33km from Itanagar
ROAD - You can drive into Itanagar from neighbouring Assam and Meghalaya
Transport run an extensive service throughout the state. Buses leave for Tinsukia in
the evening, arriving early the following morning
